To become a Dental Assistant, you first need a high school diploma or GED. After that, you can go to Dental Assisting school or learn how to be a Dental Assistant on the job.

In Hawaii, dental assistants don’t have to be certified, meaning they don’t have to take any special exams or attend specific schools to become dental assistants
But, certification can make you a more competitive applicant for certain jobs. To become certified, you can go to the Kapiolani Community College dental assisting program and then take the Dental Assisting National Board (DANB) exam or work as a dental assistant for 3,500 hours and take the DANB exam.
