To become a dental hygienist, you first need a high school diploma or GED. After that, you can go to University of Hawaii Maui College (two- year associate degree program), University of Hawaii at Manoa (four-year bachelor’s degree program), or to a mainland dental hygiene program.

Dental hygienists in Hawaii are required to attend a Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) accredited school. Both UH Manoa and UH Maui College are CODA accredited. Make sure a program is CODA accredited before attending!
